It's a branch of surgery that deals with the
surgical correction of any congenital, acquired, tumorous or simply involutional process that requires restoration or the repositioning of superficial structures affecting body shape and function, according to criteria of
proportionality and aesthetic parameters. Its techniques are based on the transplantation and mobilization of tissues (plasties, for the former, and the alteration, exchange, resection or grafting of tissues or implants of inert material, for the latter).
This specialty is characterized by surgical action on
deviations from the norm and from an aesthetic appearance, and on pathological processes.

- Burns and their scars.
- Surgical treatment of tumours and of any regions requiring reconstruction by plasty or grafting.
- Surgical treatment of external congenital malformations of the head-neck-face region, and malformations of other regions requiring plasties or grafting.
