Paediatrics deals with the
diagnosis and treatment of all childhood and adolescent pathologies, from the age of 0 to 21.
Main areas of Pediatrics
Today, the aims of Pediatrics can be divided into three main areas:
- Care for healthy children (Preventive Pediatrics or Childcare)
- Care for ill children (Clinical Pediatrics)
- Interrelationships between the child, in illness and in health, and society (Social Pediatrics).
Areas of the Program
Based on the fact that Pediatrics is the comprehensive and integral medical science of childhood and on the definition of child health, the program should be simultaneously developed in two main areas:
- A) Clinical Area
- B) Child Health Area
Care of Children
Fundamentally, Pediatrics concerns anything related to the care of healthy children -
Preventive Pediatrics - , forms of integral, comprehensive and continuous medical care in ill children -
Clinical Pediatrics -, and anything related to healthy and ill children in their individual and community-based interrelatinships with the physical and human environment in which they uninterruptedly, and with their own personal traits, develop -
Social Pediatrics.
The specific characteristics of this specialty are bound to the specific characteristics of the subject of the care, requiring special courses of action of prevention, diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation and reintegration into family life, school and society, in anthropological, social, reactive, adaptive and care-related terms.
The Work of a Pediatrician

Pediatrician is a doctor with the corresponding specialist qualificiations who has received training in undertaking, carrying out, interpreting, applying and explaining the diagnostic and therapeutic procedures associated with the professional practice of Preventive, Clinical and Social Pediatrics, in public or private institutions and in hospital or out-of-hospital settings.
Pediatrics is the integral medical science relating to the development period of human life, from conception until the end of adolescence. Fundamentally, it concerns anything related to the care of heatlthy children; forms of integral, comprehensive and continuous medical care in ill children; and anything related to heatlhy and ill children in their individual and community-based interrelationship with the physical and human environment in which they uninterruptedly, and with their own personal traits, develop.
