Neurosurgery is the surgical specialty that deals with the study, research, teaching, prevention, diagnosis and treatment of organic and functional conditions of the central, peripheral and autonomic nervous system, along with its coverings and appendages, and all the actions performed on these, whatever the aetiology and pathophysiology of the condition and whatever the age of the patient.

Scope of Neurosurgery

Despite their well-defined limits, neurosurgeons share common areas with other specialties, in the diagnosis and treatment of certain conditions.

These specialties are: Anaesthetics, Angiology and Vascular Surgery, Cardiovascular Surgery, General Surgery, Maxillofacial Surgery, Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology, Paediatric Surgery, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Endocrinology and Nutrition, Geriatrics, Intensive Medicine, Nuclear Medicine, Clinical Neurophysiology, Neurology, Neuroradiology, Ophthalmology, Medical Oncology, Radiotherapeutic Oncology, Otorhinolaryngology, Psychiatry and Rehabilitation.
